The past is buried for a reason— be careful what you dig up.

Life is Weird is a Life is Strange-based alternate universe for the musical Be More Chill. The AU takes it's main inspiration from Life is Strange 1, the LIS1 follow-up comic series, the LIS1 prequel Before the Storm, and the third installment, Life is Strange: True Colours. Life is Weird was initially conceptualised in the summer of 2017, and the first story post on the askblog was made on 15 September 2017[1]. Since then, ideas have shifted or changed as more BMC and LIS content has been released, and as our ideas have multiplied and snowballed. The many stories we have to tell in this universe continue to get deeper with each passing day, and I am determined to share them with others.

The opening story of the askblog, Redshift, follows Michael Mell as the protagonist. Michael discovers time-related superpowers upon witnessing his estranged best friend's death, and falls head-first into the mysteries of his hometown after being away for five years.

Stories

Main articles: Timelines

The title "Life is Weird" acts as both a single story name and the overarching series title, as "Life is Strange" does. Here, it refers to the first askblog installment, Michael's story.

As of January 2024, there are five major story installments, and two sidestories planned. There may be other sidestories or installments with time.

Life is Weird

The opening installment of Life is Weird draws it's main inspiration from Life is Strange 1. It is internally separated into Redshift, Blueshift, and Greenshift, which are codenames for Michael, Jeremy, and Christine's points of view respectively. The point of view on the askblog is usually Redshift, as it was the original story planned.

Redshift

Redshift follows Michael Mell's point of view, mainly during the week of 9-13 October 2017.

Summary: "Life is Weird follows protagonist Michael Mell deeper into the mysteries of Arcadia, New Jersey as he struggles with newfound time-travel abilities, past mistakes, and the burdens of being a real-life superhero. Along the way, he strengthens his friendships, makes new ones, and learns just how strong those friendships can be."

Blueshift

Blueshift follows Jeremy Heere's point of view, picking up where Stormchasers leaves off.

Greenshift

Greenshift follows Christine Canigula's point of view, picking up where Stormchasers leaves off.

Ripple Effect

Ripple Effect is Rich Goranski's story. It draws some inspiration from the Life is Strange comics in form of the character Pixie and their powers and backstory, and from Rich's story in his source musical.

The beginning of this installment is planned to take place in the year 2008 (or earlier), and continue until around the end of Redshift in 2017. Rich is the protagonist, and his parents and uncle— Sean and Rochelle Goranski and River Jefferson respectively— are antagonists. The story is planned to cover Rich's first experiences with his powers, his "mentorship" under River, and his relationships with several characters including Chloe Valentine and Dustin Kropp.

Chemistry

The sidestory Chemistry is Brooke Lohst's backstory and "off-screen" character development before Life is Weird. According to the character in-universe, this information is "unlocked at Level 5 Friend."[2]

Stormchasers

Stormchasers draws it's main inspiration from Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

Promises

Promises draws it's main inspiration from the Life is Strange 1 post-ending comic series. It picks up post-storm where Life is Weird leaves off (mid-October 2017), and spans to around 2019-2020. Currently, Promises is planned to have at least three POV characters: Michael, Jeremy, and Rich— though more may be considered or added once the stories before this have been published.

Subheader 2

This is an example of spoiler tagged text. You can adjust the colors of these (and everything else in the template) by going into the CSS file and changing the color variables at the top of the file.

This code has two mobile responsiveness breakpoints: one at 1000px and one at 576px. The sidebar goes on top on small screens. On desktop, you can test this by resizing the window.

The table of contents is open by default. You can make it closed by default by removing the word open from the tag.

This is a static template, so you'll have to set up the table of contents on each page manually. Add an id="headername" to each header in your code, then add a corresponding link with href="#headername" to the table of contents. IDs cannot contain spaces or begin with a number.

There's no elegant way to make sub-ordered-lists appear like 1.1, 1.2, etc. in HTMLCSS. On MediaWiki sites, they just auto generate the numbers right onto the page, which is messy and not ideal for a static site. You'll have to make do with a/b/c, sorry.

Subheader 3

Most things in this code (the notice boxes, floating images, infoboxes, etc.) can be dropped into your page wherever you want with minimal issues. Just copy and paste.

There are some utility classes in the CSS:

Subheader 4

Make sure any <h2> elements directly under a section with a right-floating image have the class "clear-both" applied. This makes it "clear" any floating elements and appear below them, to avoid display weirdness on large screens.

Work in progress!
